House Rules with Tanith.

Any regular readers of Tanith McGrath’s blog Rough Dreams and Ice Creams, should be familiar with her ‘House Rules’ segment. For those who may not be, let me explain what has caused many-a drool puddles around my laptop screen.

Tanith takes ordinary food and recipes and puts a quirky and delicious spin on them, all accompanied with mouth watering pictures and easy to follow instructions.

One of our favourite recipes is her Anti-Veggie Veggie Burger

This is one of my favorite types of recipe (yano the burger/ sandwich/ throw everything together and hope for the best kinda recipe) with very little skill involved aside from a bit of balancing and scaffolding to give it a bitta’ structure.

Of course as is the norm with ‘House Rules’ recipes this can be mixed and mashed up to included any of your favorite ingredients and variations so everyone can be happy happy happy during the eating hours!
To make the ANTI-veggie veggie-burger you will need:
  • 1 desert spoon of mayonaisse
  • 1 tsp American mustard
  • 2 pitta bread
  • 2 veggie burgers (mine are Rachel Allen and they are the shiz)
  • Semi soft cheese (I have goats cheese but most cheese taste mega)
  • 2 slices of salami- (sliced and fried in a pan with no oil)
  • 1/2 a cup of garden peas (boiled to death and mushed with a fork-salt and pepper to taste)
  • Olives and feta cheese to garnish if that tickles your fancy
1.First slice your cheese.
I use a potato peeler, it’s the awesome lazy way to get perfect slices!
2.Give your burgers a nice suntan in a hot pan using a small amount of oil.
hot and crispy perfection.
3. Mix up your mustard and mayo in a dish
That;s my secret sauce I’m sharing with y’all
4.Use the biggest scone cutter you have to get lovely circles out of your
toasted pitta breads.
Here’s one i made earlier. HEM HEM 😉
Now its time to start the construction of your ANTI-Veggie

5.Start with a dollop of ‘Tans Secret Sauce’ then lovingly apply your burger.
6.Now add a kind helping of your mushy peas and your salami (optional)
Artistic formation of… crispy salami
7. Top with cheese of your choice & dollop of Secret Sauce to ‘lid’
8. Stick it to ’em with a tooth pick and top off with some olives (or what ever you fancy)
