Catherine Gundry-Beck Photography.

I’m a portrait photographer from Dublin but have been studying for a degree in Photography in Norwich University of the Arts for the past three years. I hope to pursue a career in Advertising Portrait Photography and Music Photography after I graduate this July, moving to London to assist other photographers.

I first became interested in becoming a photographer when I did work experience in a portrait studio in Transition Year in school; I was fascinated by how the photographer moved around lights and communicated with the sitter to get beautiful shots. What made me passionate about music photography was seeing photographs that were taken at the 2011 Oxegen festival by Peter Neill, I met him soon after and his stories of shooting bands made me so excited to do it myself. Since then I’ve been gaining press passes, both in Ireland and the UK, to photograph bands such as Bastille, Jake Bugg and Alunageorge. Capturing a singer lost in their music, getting the lights all to line up to get a misty, magical effect is so rewarding for me.

The work that I’ve been doing for my degree has mainly been portraiture, as I love meeting and working with people. I aim to create photographs that have an ethereal, intriguing tone that capture a tranquil atmosphere that draws the viewer into a dreamlike world. I’ve been inspired by many photographers and other artists, my main influences include Damien and Leila de Blinkk, Diego Uchitel and Tim Walker. I come back home quite often and have enjoyed photographing people in locations that I explored as I grew up, such as Killiney Hill and I hope to do a lot more work in Ireland in future. I am available for commissions in both the UK and Ireland.
