Get the Look: Particularly Purple – 2014’s Colour Of The Year

Purple – Radiant Orchid to be exact – has been named as the official colour of 2014.

Global colour authority Pantone scoured the trends and cultural influences of the year to come, and arrived at the conclusion that this soft shade of purple will be 2014’s must-have colour.

Radiant Orchid is a blend of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones. According to Pantone, the colour is a reflection of the creativity and originality that is so valued in today’s society.

“Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

You’ll be sure to spot the shade appearing in fashion, interiors, and graphics of 2014.

In the beauty world, the colour pairs well with reds, pinks and nude taupes. Here’s how you can jump into the trend head-first (literally) by working the colour on your face:

Lips:

Spotted on the Spring 2014 runways, Prabal Gurung and Peter Pilotto worked a light lavender lip. You can give your look a refreshing update for the New Year with this adventurous shade.

Cheeks:

Sweep a little mix of purple and pink on the cheeks. The colour works wells on most skin tones because of its combined warm and cool undertones.

Eyes:

Purple eye shadow naturally enhances green eye colours. For a unique night-time look, try adding a line of purple on the lower lash line to compliment a black smokey eye.
